My Tutoring Philosophy

​My tutoring philosophy can be summed up by a statement attributed to Galileo:
“You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him to find it within himself.”

I believe the key to learning is guiding students to discover concepts for themselves. It is essential to begin by understanding each student’s current level of comprehension, and then build the supports that enable them to uncover—and truly take ownership of—new ideas.​​

Customized Student Lessons

​In line with my tutoring philosophy, I treat each student as an individual with unique strengths, learning styles, and challenges. I work to build rapport with each student to evaluate these traits. Initially, I review previous homework, tests, and exams to assess the student’s current level of comprehension. Based on these assessments, I tailor my tutoring approach to the student’s needs, providing remedial support when necessary.
 

I continually monitor the student’s progress. If something isn’t working, I adjust the approach until we achieve success.

Clear, Patient Explanations

​I break down difficult concepts into simple, manageable steps so students feel capable rather than overwhelmed. I have developed study notes that provide clear outlines of concepts with supporting examples. In addition, I use Kuta Software’s Test and Worksheet Generators to reinforce key skills and ensure mastery.

Students learn best when they feel supported. I focus on encouragement, steady progress, and reducing math anxiety so students gain confidence in their abilities.

Tutoring Terms

  • One hour is the minimum session time.
    Otherwise, length and frequency of sessions based on the student's need.

    • In person tutoring  --  payment is due at each ​session

    • Virtual tutoring  --  pre-payment plan

  • There is a one hour charge for cancellation less that 24 hours prior to the scheduled session

  • When tutoring at the student's home an adult must be present in the house
